After starting out as a series of more or less successful niche businesses, such as a cab company, it eventually became one of the world's most successful financial enterprises. The country is among the smallest in the world, and altitudes lie within a range of only a few metres. The country was given its current name and became a republic after having been a sultanate for centuries. Practically the whole country became submerged during the tsunami in the Indian Sea in 2004. 8. The next destination lies in the outskirts of the largest city in its country in terms of surface area. The area was named after something that used to be of central importance there. Now, it is known mostly due to its religious significance, and is the place many wish to be their final destination. One of Beethoven's works shares its name with this place. 9. Moving westward, the area we are now looking for is surrounded by a single country. For religious reasons, this area was declared independent in the end, after a long period where the religious leaders considered themselves prisoners. There are few places in the world where smoke is given as much attention as in this one. A few years ago, this area came into focus when the local newspaper condemned the Dakar-rally. VATICAN

10. To the north, we find a place that is seen as its country's most important and valuable resource. A well-known artist set a world record when she held a concert here. The name of the place is inspired by a fictional species of humanoid creatures, and many tourists see these creatures as synonymous with the country.

21. Today's first destination has the largest concentration of muslims in its continent, but has no religion shared by a majority of the polulation. It has one of the world's most ethnically diverse populations, and more than 20 official and non-official languages. It has fostered many world-class athletes, but won very little. Tourism in this country has increased manifold in the course of a few years. SURINAM

22. To the west we find our next destination, which was virtually razed to the ground by a natural disaster at one point. It was built on the basis of the production of a candy-related raw material. It was the birthplace of a historical figure who had a country named after him. Said to be the capital of the world when it comes to a certain type of illegal activity, it is also the work place of a not-too-opposition-friendly head of state. CARACAS

23. This place has a location the like of which a lot of italians have had bad exerience with. It was moved and rebuilt somewhere else at one point, and has changed its name on at least two occasions. In a certain alură of its location, it is no. 1 in the world. Three of the nation's leaders were overthrown here in the space of less than a decade. It is the home of a sculpture of a religious figure in an utraditional pose. QUITO

24. Travelling northwards, we find our second last destination. This place achieved an important educational milestone a short wile ago. It was named after the terrain it lies right next to, in the autentic language of that area. It has been struck by natural disasters hard and often, and has been severely hampered as a consequence. It had a monorail system up until the 1980s, and there are plans to rebuild it.

25. And so we come to the end of our journey, and this may be the ideal ending point for this competition. This place is one of the world's most isolated inhabited areas. It lies more than 4000 miles away from the capital of the country it belongs to, has no rivers, and lies at the top of a mountain two miles tall. It became famous due to what was supposedly the end result of a religious military coup, and once lost more than 97 percent of its population in the course of a single decade. EASTER ISLANDS
